06/20/2006 - Cool videos
This past Saturday, a few guys came out and we spent a great day throwing, eating, and playing with all kinds of strength toys. Dan (www.bemoretraining.com), who dabbles a lot in strongman stuff, brought over a few phone books and a couple decks of cards to tear in half. See below for some cool video.

06/14/2006 -Caber/ LWFD video
Took out my new caber today and took some tosses. It is a solid oak caber at 16', 135# with almost no taper. It will be a very tough caber to flip. I also took several throws with the LWFD going back and forth between two techniques. My distances are still down and during my workout after throwing I realized one big reason...I am weak! I am hitting the gym hard over the next several weeks to build my strength back up.

05/23/2006 - LWFD video
Got a really late start today. Had meetings at the office until 7:15pm, and didn't get out to throw until just after 8:00pm. Threw some throwing clothes on, loaded up the truck and hit the throwing field. This is the second session using my 'new' LWFD technique. I have been so bad about fouling out the left side of the box, something had to change. So working with my wife on Sunday (one day after driving back 6 hours from Edinboro, PA), we made some adjustments. I am really focusing on hitting the right corner and keeping myself from getting any leftward movement on my first turn. For my second, I am focusing on recasting the weight forward and trying to get my body back ahead of it. I still have quite a bit to work on, but I am fairly consistent now about getting some decent throws without fouling. With this video capture, I hit the back corner on the first spin exactly where I want, but I did not get a good recast.

Video notes. My trial of Dartfish expired, so no more fancy timers and arcs. I really liked the software, but at $1000 a copy, it is way to rich for my blood. So I will be using Windows Movie Maker going forward. You can do some cool stuff with it, not near as cool as Dartfish, but cool nevertheless. Enjoy!
04/19/2006 - HH and LWFD video
Today felt great. I think I finally fixed my hammer. Since I have changed my style this year, my timing and balance have been all out of whack. But tonight, after a few pretty crappy throws, I started to get just a little more aggressive on my first wind (from ground to overhead) and that did the trick. Now I don't rock back to my heels. Had a decent LWFD as well. I had several over 74'.

04/16/2006 - Sheaf video
Probably should not have went out today, but it was beautiful and didn't want to waste it. Started out throwing the HWFD and it absolutely sucked!! I am trying a few different things and it looks like it is going to take a little while to pick them up. Switched over to the sheaf. Took 6 or 7 tosses total and am posting one. With the 20# bag, I tend to pull longer on the bag than I would a 16# bag. This keeps it from flying off to the left.

04/15/2006 - HH/OS videos
Got out and tossed around the HH and the OS today. No big numbers, but the HH didn't feel quite so bad. I took some good video, and am playing around with some of the features on Dartfish to analyze them. Check them out. The HH video has 4 timers. One counts the overall length of time for the throw, and the other three are measuring the time it takes to get from the peak over my right shoulder to the peak of my left shoulder or the release. The video with arcs draws a different color line following the head of the hammer on all three winds. The OS side by side is today's throw with the stone against earlier in the week's shot put. Details are in the blog.

04/13/2006 - Lifting videos
Played around with my axle (2" thick bar) tonight. Was working on my cleans and snatches. I really need to figure out some technique. he lift itself feels pretty easy, but I just go to pieces about the time I need to 'rack' it. I also need to figure out how to position my hands so I don't feel like the bar is going to fly out of them. Details are in the blog.

04/12/2006 - More videos
Thought a lot and watched a lot of the videos I took last session. I also watched a lot of other good throwers throw and adjusted my technique accordingly. Today I worked on the LWFD and the HH. The HH was horrendous, and I decided to not even post the one video I took. I was stuck in the 96'-98' foot range on everything. Nothing felt right and I was getting pissed at myself. The LWFD however felt pretty decent. I hit several over 73' with the best being a 75'+ which I didn't get on video. I do have two videos to share. The LWFD and a comparison of today's LWFD with last sessions. Details are in the blog.

04/08/2006 - First videos posted
OK, the first videos are now up. I threw three events today. This is the first time I have done anything since my wisdom teeth were extracted, so I wasn't looking for PR's. What I was concentrating on was footwork. I took the video camera out, and got some decent shots of the OS, HWFD, and the LWFD. The videos below represent the furthest throws of each event for the day, and a pretty cool side-by-side comparison shot of the HWFD and LWFD. Details are in the blog.

HWFD - 37'1 (video)
